Don't be discombobulated! At least not more so than usual. We are weaning ourselves off the uninspired template and -- with no web design skills at all!!! -- attempting a new look.

Font too big says the jerk who doesn't (yet) need glasses?
I suggest something like purisa medium for the titles (although if I could get away with it, I'd suggest sans serif for the titles as purisa for the main body: but no one would go for it). Here's my current desktop, which uses it for menus. Maybe useless advice, as I think the font might be unique to Gnome, but I'm sure there's something similar out there we could use on the blog.
I think it looks really great now. I wish we could have little garden gnomes that would run across the posts alternately screaming obscenities and flashing readers. No, just kidding about that. Then again . . . .
Now we just need Zazzle.com t-shirts and we're all set.
Eileen: gnomes would be good, but given the persistent ITM interest in the elision of the human/animal borderline, maybe you should make this 5-second clip into a gif:
Um ... a touch on the loud side ...?
ReplyDeleteIs it? I thought it was rather sparse!
ReplyDeleteNot loud busy, loud shouty, in a stark sort of way. Not that it's not fine, of course.

I think we have it worked out: smaller font, more subtle frame, less loud, more dignified, non-screaming color scheme...

If you can create the gnomes as a Flash animation (hey that's a pun, when I think about it), then I'm happy to have them on the blog, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteMuch better now. In fact it's [Borat voice]Niiiice[/Borat voice].
