This just in: according to
Entertainment Weekly's most recent Shaw Report [by Jessica Shaw], fossils are "in," skeletons are "five minutes ago," and hieroglyphics are "out." And here is Jeffrey Cohen,
on his way to UPenn on Tuesday to talk fossils, neoliths, and the "weight of the past." We know he's "got his fossil on," but what about you?

Given the direction that hipness is doing, I think if I want to keep on the avant garde, it's time to drop Gang Gang Dance and get on the primordial ooze train.
Yes, but the problem is that fossils will be in for all of five minutes, so by the time I reach Philly ...
Then again, more positively, what all of this means is that in a few million years many of us will be both fossilized and therefore, at last, HIP. I can feel myself petrify at this very moment...!
It's tough to be on the cutting edge and realize that you only have five minutes to capitalize, so use them wisely. And safe travels.
Funny to think that while my students are spending the coming week in Cancun or Fort Lauderdale, my big spring break event is a scholarly presentation in Philadelphia.
