So there's this plenary lecture I'm giving, a crazy piece on Mandeville that is 100% new work. I'm looking forward to the conference very much, and this post apologizes in advance for the fact that the SEMA program is so rich that I will not be able to attend many papers I would like to hear. I try to give priority to graduate students who comment at ITM, so Greg Carrier and Nic D'Alessio would be at the top of my list ... but they are up against graduate students from GW who would tie me up, light me on fire, and offer me as a sacrifice to some obscure deity if I did not come to their presentations. So, sorry Greg and Nic.
There won't be any blog posts from J J Cohen for quite some time.
Oh Jeffrey, I am so glad you seem to know all my deepest and darkest intentions before even I do. But, just to clarify -- does this mean you would *not* like to be sacrificed to an obscure deity?
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the astounding stone plenary.
I'm happy to bring the implements with me to st. louis, I'll even check baggage to make it happen--that is, pending you answer to Liza's above question.
ReplyDeleteAnd, you did forget that perhaps there are non former GW students who are grad students who might also have evil plots, but are keeping silent about them...or not....
Appreciate the mention, but I thoroughly understand the need to be present for your GW students. But if you could bi-locate, then we'd have one miracle toward canonization. I'll probably post my paper after I give it.
ReplyDeleteAlso looking forward to your stone plenary, and well, just everything about SEMA!
It is with profound sorrow that I announce that -- due to the presence of scary people at SEMA, some of whom carry implements and others who just seem pagan sacrifice-mad -- I will not be attending the conference. Carry on without me.
ReplyDeleteThe blame for this whole mess lies entirely in my hands. If we're going to sacrifice anyone, or tie anyone up, or hack them to pieces, it should be me. I tried my best not to create conflicts like this, and . . . look what happened! Of course, I am ALSO pissed at myself for creating a scheduling situation where I, also, want to be several places at once. As I'm the organizer, I will tell you now that I will be the person in *all* of your sessions who always has to leave in the middle when her cell phone starts vibrating because some idiot--I mean, conference attendee--is lost, can't make the A/V equipment in their session work, misplaced their nametag, etc. Let's just all commiserate about it over a lot of drinks! I can't wait to see everyone.
