SEMA, You're Great, Don't Ever Leave Me

by EILEEN JOY

Just as SEMA pre-opened with a bang with Betsy and I at the vodka bar Sub-Zero, then Niche Restaurant, in Saint Louis, so it also closed with one at Chez Leon, where the elegant elderly ladies and gentleman of the Central West End still dress for dinner and close their evenings over roast chicken and salad lyonnaise and Sancerre. We were there on the sidewalk until they began folding the tables and chairs, then retired to the bar for whiskey and a music mix that included Daft Punk, Pet Shop Boys, Chaka Khan, and Jimi Hendrix [let's just say that after dinner service ends, the place takes on a different vibe entirely]. Here is just to say what a wonderful time I had at the SEMA conference and how we couldn't have done any of it without each other. A more substantial post later, but for now, I send everyone my eternal gratitude for, maybe, the best time ever at a medieval studies conference. Cheers and good night. [Now, in the meantime: read Karl's amazing SEMA paper.]

  1. Way to go everyone. Cheers to everyone. I am drinking a glass of beer right now to everyone and everything. And, when I say everything, I mean everything .

In fact, SEMA, you're great. Won't you come see me sometime?

And Eileen is right. Karl's paper is worth the read and then some. A split second of pig-empathy is brief, but its at least something!

And don't lets anyone forget about Eileen's paper (so modest her not mentioning it because it was serious serious serious) of her usual force-of-nature regard for supersaturated beings and calls to think the event!
