Weary of Medieval Studies, ITM Calls It Quits

by J J Cohen

No future remains for the past. Our 1,135 posts at In the Middle have been fun ... but we do not see the point of going on to number 1,136. This isn't a Becket play. Godot has left the building.

That's what Eileen, Jeffrey, Mary Kate and Karl have determined. We won't take this blog down: we'll leave it as a fossil, an ichthyosaur sent to times to come that do not particularly desire our postmodernmedievalismnessosity. We hope it doesn't smell too bad as it festers before mineralizing.

As to the Tiny Shriner, he has packed his little bag of martini glasses and shakers, put the bag on a stick and has hit the road. He's been homeless and unloved before. We've heard he's headed to Kalamazoo. I advise all readers to avoid him as a homunculus of questionable integrity.

Adios.

What? no warning?

Would that this were true, in tomorrow's Now as today's. The folly of this is too beautiful to endure for only a day.

I'm with you. Let's all become Americanists!

Americanists? Too easy?

You might also enjoy this. Or this.

To think that ITM comes to an end on the same day that horned viking helmets are discovered and that I resign from my current job to take a new one .... what a weird coincidence.

I'm actually going to start a new blog on Twitter, called "gettingmedievalontwitterinthemiddleofhundredsofthousandsofothertweets," and all of my posts are going to be 140 characters or less. Finally, I can get some other work done for a change.

(everyone, please don't tell Eileen this, but Karl, Mary Kate and I placed this post up this morning to try to get Eileen off ITM and on Twitter, where her maximal verbosity may finally be constrained. Look for a new and improved blog -- without Eileen -- soon. And don't sign up for Eileen's tweets, because they are really twicks.)

Wow -- I'm glad I realized that it is April 1st today! I actually just located your blog yesterday, so I was pretty bummed by the "news." Glad you'll all still be around - this blog will provide me with high-quality procrastination opportunities versus my usual low-rent variety.

Almost as good as Nine Inch Nails: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/apr/02/bjork-coldplay-april-fools

That is the first (and last) time I'll write that about something from this website (I HOPE).

fierinerI just want you all to stop worrying, because Tiny made it as far as Cincinnati. I hear Kate Moss has been mobbed, after the first few days when nobody local recognized her. T+KM ARE an item. She and I are having the martinis as we speak (we met when our spa orders got mixed up: I was getting a seaweed wrap and Kate a Dead Sea mud treatment, not the other way round).
