Via Irina Dumitrescu, two valuable resources for ITM readers.
1. Digitized versions of the 245 Loeb classical volumes that have passed into the public domain are available for download here:

2. Under the clever name of Liberation Philology, Ross Arthur's language drill software is now available for iPad and iPod. Four languages have been released so far: Latin, Ancient Greek, Old English and Occitan. I haven't had the chance to evaluate the programs yet but intend to. If you've tried them out, please post in the comments below and let us know how you found them. The iPads of the world need more Latin, Ancient Greek, Old English and Occitan upon them.
Way cool! I'm assuming you mean David Arthur; if not, Ross Arthur of York University is even more awesome than I thought he was.

ReplyDeleteThe correct answer is: Ross Arthur of York University is even more awesome than you thought he was.
ReplyDeleteI discovered Ross's Liberation Philology software as an undergrad, when the programs were still formatted for DOS. (Though Greek was only available for Macs!) The original website is now defunct (I have a DOS emulator on my mac running them now), but Ross' son David has been preparing the software for use on iPads, iPods, etc., and his name is on the website. But I gave correct information!
Yikes ... and now I am changing things back!!
ReplyDeletesuper useful! I am off to circulate these links to the Monash gang...
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I look forward to getting back to my Occitan! How useful!
ReplyDeleteGrand! Just in time for day one of the summer section of Early Brit Lit class I'm teaching (for the first time!). Doubtless the little dears will find these resources, um, so exciting . . .
